Excerpt: Rudolf Steiner says in his “Outline of Occult Science” that the future of the spiritual movement in the fifth culture-epoch and on into the sixth consists in the fact that a deepening wisdom of the Grail will stream more and more into the spiritual life of humanity. This is a tremendously far-reaching statement. Let us look back to the beginning of our era. There were then after-echoes of a primordial wisdom – people looked back into the past in order to find a model for what is to come. This wisdom was at that time in a process of decline. In the present we are living in an age where there is a growing spiritual stream, in which the essential thing is that ever more wisdom of the Grail should flow down into human consciousness.

There is a radical difference between the ancient Mystery wisdom and – as Rudolf Steiner calls it – the Apocalyptic Wisdom of the Rosicrucians. When Rudolf Steiner chose the expression “Knowledge of the Grail”, then this tells us what is the important thing about this Apocalyptic, growing stream of wisdom: it is knowledge of the Christ-Mystery; for, that is what the Grail Mystery is – it is the Christ-Mystery in its advance and its ever onward working into the future.
